What Is Off-Page SEO?
At the end of the day SEO boils down to on-page and off-page activities. The best results come from off-page SEO.
On-page means the optimization efforts made on or in website. For example, the keywords chosen and their placement is a good example of on-page optimization techniques.
Do not undermine the importance of thoroughly choosing your website keywords. By the way, other terms for keywords are key search terms and keyword phrases. The better you choose, the better your off-page SEO can work for you.
Off-page SEO is about getting links to your website. Search engines in large part judge the value of a website by the number of links to a particular site and the quality of those links.
Specifically off-page SEO is getting links to your site. The Internet is a web; the web is made up of sites and links; the more links to your site, the better that is for your site because search engines value links.
Rules of the game: get lots of links to your site. Get links to your site from sites that are related to your site. Get links from sites that have a lot of authority. Authority is primarily determined by page rank.
So, it\’s easy to talk about getting links and musing about getting awesome links from CNN, but just how do you get those links? 3 approaches are commonly used; they are:
1. Create such great content that other websites, without any prompting from you, link to your site. Content can be articles, videos, podcasts, and/or photos.
2. Be a deal-maker by link exchanging with related websites. E-mail a site owner or webmaster and ask for a link exchange.
3. Create inbound links by writing and publishing content on sites outside your website.
I focus on option three. I like the control and I like the links to my site being one-way. I\’ve done link exchanging but it\’s an ongoing headache.
My only gripe with number three is it takes a lot of my time. I spend a great deal of time building links outside of my site; I do so in a genuine effort. I always try and write informative articles and blog comments. I don\’t want to add useless content to the web.
That said, if you look, there are more efficient ways to create these links outside your site with top quality SEO services.
